Ex-sub gets probation
Bullard victim testifies to improper relationship

Bagley
Jennifer Bagley, accused of having a sexual relationship with a Bullard teenager, was convicted by a Smith County jury last week of having an improper relationship with the teen.

The 35 year old, who also worked as a Smith County jailer, was given 10 years probation for a relationship with a 16-year-old Bullard High School student, while Bagley worked as a substitute teacher for the district.

According to District Judge Jack Skeen Jr., the jury deliberated about an hour after the initial verdict on Bagley's sentencing.

Skeen further ordered Bagley serve six months in the Smith County Jail as a condition of her probation, and she will be put on "intensive supervision" for the first three years.

Bagley will not, however, have to register as a sex offender.

State law does not require registration as a sex offender for improper relationship between an educator and student.

But she's not yet finished with court proceedings

Bagley also has a pending charge of sexual assault of a child with the same victim. She's scheduled to go to trial for that offense in October.

Bagley worked as a guard at the Smith County Jail in the 1990s before becoming an officer at the Juvenile Attention Center.

She also held several other jobs involving children and was a substitute teacher at Bullard schools for six to seven years, she said. She also worked in the same capacity for Tyler and Jacksonville ISDs.

The now 19-year-old victim testified last week, according to Skeen, that she was a 16- year-old junior at Bullard High School in 2004, when she and Bagley, began a sexual affair that lasted for more than a year.

Prosecutors said the victim asserted she and Bagley had sex 15-20 times, and the teacher also gave her marijuana, alcohol and other drugs.

Another BHS student testified Bagley supplied him with pain medications during the same time period.

Prosecutors said she also supplied the students with cocaine.

Following her conviction, Bagley testified during the punishment trial and denied committing the offense.

She said the jury's guilty verdict was incorrect and the girl who testified they had sex was a liar.

According to court officials, the day Bagley learned her case was to go to trial, she said she was feeling ill and requested that someone call 911.

The defendant said she took 70 Xanax, but she didn't recall why.

Bagley has worked at the Smith County Jail, the Juvenile Attention Center, a detention facility for Chapel Hill elementary school students and at the Andrew's Center.

She said she went on mental disability around 2000, but was continued as a substitute teacher.
