MISSING MARKER The Cherokee County Historical Commission is seeking information about a historical marker for the Burning Bush Colony. The marker was located on FM 2493 near the Smith/Cherokee County line, about one-half mile from the junction of FM 2493 and FM 344. The marker detailed the history of this religious community which operated in the vicinity of the marker from 1913- 1919. An evangelical organization founded in Chicago, it was a self-sustaining agriculture community of about 400 people. The marker was accidentally knocked down last year, and the commission has not been able to locate its whereabouts. If anyone has information about the location of the marker, please contact the commission at (903) 586-4057. No questions will be asked, as the Commission is interested only in restoring the marker for public display. The commission can also be reached at cchc@cocherokee. org. |
