Texas Tech names honor students

Bullard graduate and Texas Tech sophomore Catherine Cheryl Arnold made the President's List for the Spring 2007 semester.

Texas Tech presented degrees to approximately 2,525 graduated students the Spring 2007 Commencement in the United Spirit Arena on campus on Saturday, May 12, 2007, and approximately 5,270 students qualified for either the President's List or the Dean's List in the spring semester.

To make the President's List, a student has to take at least 12 qualifying credit hours and have a 4.0 grade point average (GPA). Students qualifying for the Dean's List also must take at least 12 qualifying hours and have a GPA of 3.5 to 3.9.

Arnold is majoring in political science.

Brook Hill grad named scholar

Kira Schell Langsjoen of Tyler is a 2007 College Sponsored National Merit Scholar. Ms. Langsjoen attended her freshman year at Bullard High School and completed the remainder of her high school years at The Brook Hill School. She graduated as salutatorian garnering honors and multiple awards. She has been offered additional scholarships

from colleges and universities across the United States.

Each year a total of 55,000 high school students across the USA compete on the PSAT in the honored National Merit Program. According to Mandy Geran from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, located in Evanston, Ill., the program's qualifying stage is based on the students index.

The selection index is simply the sum of three PSAT scores: math, verbal and writing. Semi-finalists and finalists are determined by the highest PSAT Scores.

Of the 55,000 qualifying students, 16,000 advance to semi-finalist and finalist status. From the 16,000 brilliant students chosen as semifinalists, only 8,200 students become finalists. Finalists are chosen based on PSAT scores of 217 or above, their leadership abilities, skills and accomplishments. Langsjoen was recognized as a finalist in March.

Langsjoen is a member of Ballet Tyler, is an pianist, and is an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Bullard. Ms. Langsjoen has accepted scholarships with Texas A&M University in College Station and will attend in the fall. She plans to pursue a degree in physics.

She is the daughter of Stan Langsjoen and Kathleen Wallace.

Mary-Hardin lists achievers

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor announced that 317 students have been listed on the spring 2007 provost honor roll.

Flint resident Jodye Allane Templeton was one of the students who achievd this status.

To receive this recognition a student must achieve a 3.7 grade point average (CPA) or better on a 4.0 scale.

TSU lists honor students

East Texans have been named to the spring 2007 dean's list at Texas State University-San Marcos. They include: Melanie B. Haynes and Benjamin L Campbell, both of Flint. To be named to the dean's list, a student must earn a minimum gradepoint average of 3.50 while carrying a class load of at least 12 hours.

TCU releases dean's list

Texas Christian University named students ending the spring 2007 semester with a at least a 3.4 GPA, making the dean's list at the Fort Worth school.
