Extension office to hold blackberry control demo

This year and last, extension agents in Rains, Smith, Van Zandt, and Wood Counties conducted result demonstrations to help find economical and effective control products and rates for blackberries, which can be one of the more difficult to control pasture weeds.

Large experimental plots were established this June at the Phil Sadler farm near Hogansville using typical pasture spray equipment and five different pasture chemicals readily found in our area.

A free field day to show off these plots and discuss the observed results is planned for from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday.

The Phil Sadler farm can be found by traveling about seven miles east of Emory on Highway 515, and then taking a right on County Road 3380 (follow the signs from there).

For more information call either the Wood or Rains County Extension offices at 903-763-2924 or 903-473-2412.
