Severe storms continue to hit Smith, Cherokee areas
TXU spokesperson Richard Saunders said about 800 area residents were without power June 19 -- mostly due to downed trees and lightning strikes. In downtown Bullard, the electricity was out for about two hours. Flooding rains returned to parts of East Texas Sunday, and are possible for the rest of the week. Two periods of heavy rain occurred Saturday night and Sunday. The Saturday evening rains were the result of the decaying sea-breeze front. The Sunday rains were the result of the return of the upper air storm over the north and central, and again the seabreeze elsewhere. Otherwise, Sunday was mostly cloudy and warm. Low temperatures Sunday morning were in the 70s near Saturday's levels. Afternoon high readings were determined by when rain fell at any particular station. Where rain fell during the morning across the north high readings were in the middle 80s. Where rain either did not fall or did not fall until afternoon, readings reached the high 80s to lower 90s. |
