Bragging Scott Franks is the new principal of Bullard High School. Franks replaces Leonard Speaker, who announced his retirement effective the end of the 2007 school year. Franks is not a new educator to the Bullard School District, having served as a former teacher, counselor and assistant principal for Bullard. Franks graduated from Woodlawn High School in Shreveport, La. He attended Northwestern University in Natchitoches, La. and had a major in physical education with a minor in science. Scott's first teaching position was at Leesville High School where he taught physical science and coached football. From 1985 until 1987 Scott was an assistant football coach, physical science teacher, and head girl's track coach at Mansfield High School in Mansfield, La. From 1987 to 1990 Franks was a physical science teacher, assistant football coach, head strength and conditioning coach and assistant boy's track coach at 4A Parkway High School in Bossier City, La. The football team reached the regional finals with a record of nine wins and three losses. In 1998, the football team made the Regional Finals with 10 wins and two losses. Finally Franks saw the light and moved to God's country and taught physical science and coached at Jacksonville High School. With the success that Franks achieved, he was hired at Class 5A Victoria High School. Scott taught physical science and was part of a three-year run where the Victoria Football Team won 32 games and advanced to the state semifinals in 1993 with 14 wins and only one loss. In 1996, Scott was hired as head football coach at Frankston High School. He also taught anatomy and physiology during his three-year stay at Frankston. In 1997, the Palestine Herald Press chose Franks as Football Coach of the Year. In 1999, Scott shifted gears somewhat and came to Bullard Middle School as the earth science teacher. He began working with the gifted and talented program and worked with educational strategies to aid low-performing or underachieving students. As Franks moved up the academic ladder, he was hired by LaPoynor High School to plan and implement and evaluate a comprehensive academic, occupational and personal counseling program. He also gained valuable experience as the TAKS coordinator. After a year at LaPoynor, Franks was hired as the principal of LaPoynor High School. During his three years, Scott strengthened curriculum and instruction through study, research and planning. A cross-curriculum program was integrated to improve academic performance and advanced placement courses were expanded with dual credit enrollment with Trinity Valley Community College. As Franks continued in the educational school business, he received his master's degree in education from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2003 and master's in counseling in 2006. In 2006, Bullard I.S.D. called on Franks to return to Bullard as the director of guidance and counseling and district testing coordinator. During this time, Scott collaborated with school personnel, students, parents and the community to promote a continuous guidance and counseling program. He also served as the District TAKS Coordinator. Following his two years at Bullard Middle School, Franks became assistant principal at Bullard High School. He assisted with curriculum and instruction; served on the district curriculum advisory team; served on campus site-based decision making committee and supervised and maintained an active and strong discipline management plan. Now he will be responsible for strengthening curriculum and instruction; planning and initiating a strong curriculum restructuring in math and science; initiating a transition program designed to enhance the academic performance of freshman students; and collaborating with school personnel, students, parents and the community to promote a strong academic environment for Bullard High School. When he has time, he enjoys reading books, and attending football games at Texas A&M, where his daughter will be a senior this school year. One of Franks good friends is the strength and conditioning Coach at Texas A&M and Scott continues that friendship to this day. Franks and his wife enjoy the opportunity to travel and enjoy sight seeing around the country. I know that the Bullard community will be pleased to have Franks and his family become more involved with its activities. Franks is one of the most respectful and educated men I have had the opportunity to be involved with. He has the educational background and common hard-working background to become an effective leader of Bullard High School. Scott believes Bullard High School and the professional teachers are the best that East Texas has to offer. The total program of students and faculty and administration of the BISD are first class. |
