JC to hold theater camp "ON STAGE," a theater day camp for students who have complete grades 3-12 will be held on the Jacksonville College campus from July 30 through Aug. 4. For the second year, the camp will be under the direction of Evelyn James. Classes will include instruction in acting, characterization, improvisation, theater games, vocal techniques and rehearsal techniques. Sessions for students who have completed grades 3-6 will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Sessions for students who have completed grades 7-12 will be held from 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The week of learning and fun will be concluded with a festival of one-act plays which will be presented on Friday night and Saturday afternoon so that parents and friends can join in on the excitement. All classes will be held in Buckner Chapel and the Orr Music Annex on the Jacksonville College campus. Registration begins at 8 a.m. July 30 for grades 3-6 and at 1 p.m. for grades 7-12. Students who have completed the sixth grade and have experience or training in theater should register for the afternoon sessions. Beginning theaters students who have completed grades 3-6 should register for the morning sessions. James has many years of experience and training working with young people interested in the theater arts. She is a featured storyteller at festivals, schools, churches, and libraries. She has more than 30 years experience in the theater arts. She serves on the Board of Young Audiences of Northeast Texas and is included on the Young Audience roster of performers. James is the director of programming for the Tyler Public Library. She is founder of East Texas Storytellers, and helps produce Squatty Pines Storytelling Festival each spring. James conducts drama workshops for adults, youth and children in speech, theater arts, and storytelling and holds a master's degree in theater, speech and English. James currently teaches acting and theater history at Jacksonville College.
