Brookshire's hosts regional championship

Brookshire's was the "home team" at the Texas regional truck driving and technician championship held May 12 at the company's SouthWest Foods complex near Tyler, and half the group qualified for state competition.

It's an event sponsored by the Texas Motor Transportation Association and held at different locations throughout east Texas every year.

The following winners from Brookshire's will compete June 15-17 in College Station: David Gray, first place, sleeper class; Donald Heath, first place, 3-axle class; David Jackson, first place, technician competition; Ronnie Davis, second place, flatbed class; Brad Hamilton, second place, 5-axle class; and Will Hiser, second place, tanker class.

Truck drivers took a written test, underwent interviews by members of law enforcement, completed a pre-trip inspection and troubleshooting examination, and drove an obstacle course.

Mechanics took a written test.

"Our team worked very hard to prepare for and run this event," said Scott Reily, director of transportation logistics for BGC. "We are very proud of our transportation employees and wish them the best at state."
