SCIENCE FAIR
Cassaundra
Braaten, recently placed first in the 7th grade physical science category and
second overall, at the TJC Science fair, advancing to regionals in Kilgore. She
placed third overall in Regionals qualifying her to represent Bullard Middle
School for her 3rd consecutive year at the State Science and Engineering Fair in
San Antonio. Cassaundra's project this year dealt with letter reassignment and
the ability to read words improperly spelled to show the importance of starting
children very young to write with their imagination and not worry too much about
spelling when starting out. She believes starting children at a younger age in
expressing themselves on paper would improve students writing on the TAKS tests
and other papers where emphasizing their point on paper is their only means of
communication. She also did discover that although letter reassignment is
occasionally OK, correct spelling does matter when advancing to older children
and the use of a larger vocabulary and longer paper assignments. She was
assisted with her testing with the help of her English teacher Amanda Goode and
participants from the 7th grade Pre-ap English class.
