PAM FREDERIICK 1. The revitalization of downtown is vital in order to prevent the total emigration of its population to Hwy. 69 that may result in abandonment and decay of the area. The effort must strike a balance, keeping in mind the character of downtown and avoiding the destruction of its historical elements. As a Council member, I would continue efforts to search for new uses for empty buildings that might otherwise be threatened with decay, as well as researching funding options for a revitalization project. 2. When the leading entities of a community work together to manage their growth and plan for the future, the result is positive for everyone. For the first time in Bullard's recorded history, the City Council and School Board have met together quarterly, sharing information and co-planning for the imminent growth in our town. Between members of both groups there is a shared respect for the level of professionalism and dedication to Bullard. The leaders of the Chamber of Commerce have also established a working relationship with the City Council. The Council members have pledged to work hand-in-hand with the Chamber in order to help facilitate positive economic growth in Bullard. As a committed Councilperson, I would like to ensure that these relationships continue to grow and provide benefit to our community. 3-5. The provision of quality City services is an ongoing challenge in the face of rapid growth. Herein lies three key issues facing the City of Bullard in dealing with its inevitable growth - quality water, adequate sewer service, and well maintained streets. The current Council has addressed the issue of inadequate infrastructure by researching our available financial resources and securing the needed funding for a new water well, overhead water storage, and an expanded sewer treatment plant. These projects have all been professionally researched and planned and are currently under way. They will provide quality services to the people of Bullard and will take our city well into the future - allowing positive, controlled growth within our community. I would like to be a part of the team that ensures the completion of these projects as promised to the people of Bullard. Increased traffic on city streets is a direct result of the growth of a community. The need for maintenance and repair of our streets is becoming more demanding. Another factor in the decay of our streets is ineffective water routing, resulting in water flowing over or standing in our streets after a heavy rain. Our city crew works diligently to correct these problems, given the circumstances with which they have to work. I would like to see effective ditches and drains throughout town that allows rainwater to be directed away from the surface of our roads. The City Council is currently in the process of establishing an interlocal agreement with Smith and Cherokee Counties, allowing us to share the benefit of their bulk purchasing power of materials needed for street repair. I would like to continue that effort and be a part of the team that gets that relationship firmly in place for the benefit of the City of Bullard. |
