Braaten claims first place in girl's singles

In the Bullard District Tennis Tournament held recently in Van, Amber Braaten claimed 1st place in the girls singles after defeating Ball of Chapel Hill (6-1)(6-0), Lay of Van (6-3)(6-1), and Verner of Van (6-3)(6-1).

Braaten will now advance to the Regional tournament later this month.

Also in girls singles Bailey Coever lost in the consolation bracket to Asher of Canton (4-8)

Christopher Braaten placed 3rd in the boys singles defeating Sharp of Athens (6- 0)(6-0), Emre of Van (3-6)(6- 4)(6-1) and losing to Goode of Van (0-6)(1-6), as well as losing a playback to Register (1- 6)(2-6).

Braaten will also attend the Regional tournament as an alternate.

Zach Clark won the consolation bracket after losing his first match to McCully of Canton (4-6)(2-6), then going on to defeat Goray of Chapel Hill (8-6), and Sharp of Athens (8-6)

For boys doubles Ryan Morris and Trent Weaver defeated Giason/Rodgers of Chapel Hill (6-0)(6-1), then lost to Wilges/McMillian of Van (6-7 4/7 tiebreaker)(3-6)

Daniel Abernathy and Chance Browning defeated Connor/McFarland of Brownsboro (6-0)(6-1), and then lost to Waldrop/Jaynes of Van (4-6)(5-7)

In mixed doubles, Kailee Schmitz and Michael Monteagudo placed third after defeating Miller/Holliman of Athens (6-1)(6-3), losing to Stiefer/Hand of Van (0-6)(1- 6), defeating Rogers/Withers of Athens (6-4)(6-4), and losing a playback against Herrell/Heinlen of Van (4- 6)(0-6). Kailee and Michael will attend the Regional tournament as an alternate team.

Michelle Stephenson and David Kempton won the consolation bracket after losing to Herrell/Heinlen of Van (0- 6)(0-6) then winning against Miller/Holliman of Athens (8- 5)

For the junior varsity girls singles Katie Worrell placed 4th with a win over Worthsaw of Chapel Hill (9-7), and then losing to Randon of Athens (0- 8) and Eldore of Van (3-8)

Stephanie Head lost to Renteria of Chapel Hill (0-8), and Orr of Athens (1-8)

David Moody won the consolation bracket for boys singles after losing to Webb of Athens (5-8), then defeating Frautschio of Athens (8-3) and Comito of Athens (8-8 7/3 tiebreaker)

Stephen Head won against Martin of Chapel Hill (8-0) and then lost to Garrett of Van (3-8)

Taylor Stroner defeated McCord of Canton (8-5), and then lost to Smith of Van (2-8)

Boys doubles partners, Donald Love and Damien Pettigrew defeated Ruiz/Gruchelski of Van (8-2), lost to Parham/Bentrott of Van (0-8), and then lost in the finals of the consolation bracket to Pagitt/Ginler of Athens (7-9). The Regional tournament will be held at Allen High School in Plano on April 24-25.
