Rozell star of the pack in East Texas basketball
By Kelly Griffith Bullard Banner News

Rozell
As coaches gathered together to discuss the best athletes of the 2006-07 girls basketball season a familiar name was at the tip of every tongue.

Shelby Rozell led the Lady Guard to set school records in the most productive season in their school's history.

Under the direction of her new coach, Curtis Corley, Rozell who had already been playing for five years polished her game to an average of 25 points, 10.1 rebounds and 8.1 assists per night.

"Coach Corley challenged us to work harder," Rozell said.

The practice and determination has seemed to pay off for Rozell as she humbly admitted she never expected to make it this far. "I didn't think I'd be chosen All State, maybe All District but never this," she said.

Now that she has been chosen she will travel to San Antonio June 1, to compete in the All State competition.

Rozell has yet to decide on a college but plans to enter the nursing field.

When asked if basketball was in her future she simple responded, "Maybe… or maybe soccer… maybe both."

Being just 17 Rozell still has time to decide.

As for those with aspirations like Rozell, she advises, "Keep trying, work as hard as you can and don't give up."
