Taylor named new director
Jim Taylor, whose experience spans from the college arena to coaching East Texas schools, has exactly what Superintendent Jim Wright said Bullard is looking for. "We feel like he is the man for our community, " Wright said. "He can help us rise to were Bullard Independent School District wants to be," Wright said, as the board voted to accept Taylor on Wednesday. The decision to hire Taylor was unanimous. Wright formed a search and hiring committee, who culled the choices down to four. Wright then talked to each of the candidates for at least two hours. Taylor said he's pleased with his decision to leave New Caney, and looks forward to getting started in Bullard. "I'm very excited and appreciate this opportunity. My goal is not to let you guys down and live up to every expectation you have for our program," Taylor told the board. Taylor spent six years in New Caney - where he held the same post. "We liked his experience," Wright said. "He played football on a couple of University of Houston Southwest Conference championship teams and is a student of the game, but I think the deciding factor was his love for kids, too." Wright said his philosophy fits right in with the rest of BISD. " He wants students to be able to play whatever sport they want to," Wright said. Taylor will take over a football program that is coming off a 4-6 2006 season and hasn 't seen a winning season since 2001. But whatever happens, board member Paul Stone said it's more than winning. "The group was looking for someone with class - a leader for young people to look up to," Stone said. "That's exactly what we've found." Before New Caney, Taylor was a head coach at Dublin and prior to that he was an offensive coordinator in Temple for nine years. |
