Bullard student wins Smith County livestock show honors

Bullard student Justin Hill was one of the seven recipients of a scholarship given out to youths at the kick off to Smith County's Junior Livestock Show last week. Hill was awarded $500.
He is the son of Jerry Wayne and Jan Bain Hill, and is involved Bullard FFA. He was on the third-place state Livestock Judging contest team as part of FFA.
He received National Agricultural Proficiency Awards in wildlife production and management and diversified agricultural production. He plans to study agriculture at TJC.
The scholarships were presented at the Buyers Appreciation Dinner and Scholarship Ceremony.
The event, held at the Rose Garden Center, was a prelude to the annual show.
About 400 youths affiliated with Future Farmers of America, 4-H and Family Career and Community Leaders of America chapters will show animals, shop projects and homemaking projects during the show to be held at East Texas State Fairgrounds in Tyler, said one of the show's director's Terry Boyd.
Other recipients of scholarships were Omar Stiefer III, Trey Arnold, Elizabeth Baker, Candice Reeves, Justin Smith and Corey Shipp.
The scholarships are awarded to high school seniors based on academics, involvement in school and extracurricular activities and participation in the show.
