Fund-raiser helps out library

Bullard Community Library's capital fund increased about $15,000 recently - after the group held its yearly fund-raiser.

"An Evening in Provence," held at Eagle's Bluff Country Club, featured a five-course dinner by a French chef and a wide array of items up at silent auction. A dance followed the dinner.

Almost 150 people attended the gala, according to organizer Kirk McGowan, down from about 200 that attended the previous year.

This brings organizers at a little over $300,00, with the goal being $1.6 million goal for a new library.

According library representatives, the proposed new library building is a medium-sized pre-engineered steel building with custom exterior architectural features.

The building has been designed expressly to accommodate diverse functions while retaining the flavor of its primary usage--that of a community library--in the most costeffective way.

Within the new building will be a large community room where the Meals-on-Wheels program will operate and other community activities, cultural and enrichment events can be conducted at no charge.

The library portion of the structure will provide expanded space for books and other materials, tutoring rooms, a genealogy room, computers, allow expanded programming and have areas for children, teens and adults, an office, a tutoring/small meeting room, a study room and work room.

Next for the library is the annual golf tournament slated for Sept. 17 and sponsored by Cavender's Boot City.

The tournament will also take place at Eagle's Bluff.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by a hamburger and chicken buffet at 11 a.m.

The four-player scramble begins with a shotgun start at 12:30 pm.

Cost will be $75 a player.

New this year is a Ladies Game Day to be held in conjunction with the golf tournament. Maj jong and bridge games will be available along with the buffet lunch.

Cost for the Ladies Game Day will be $25.

Prizes will be awarded following the tournament for first, second, and third place as well as closest to the pin and closest to the line.

A wine tasting and silent auction will also take place after the tournament.
