Flower market added to Azalea trail

TYLER - A new event, the Main Street Flower Market, is set to take place in downtown Tyler on Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31 during the 48th Annual Azalea and Spring Flower Trail.

Bedding plants, hanging plants, fresh cut flowers, fruit trees, yard art, pottery, birdhouses and more will be offered at the inaugural event, which is being organized by the Heart of Tyler Main Street Program.

The flower market will occur at the historic setting of Tyler's Goodman Museum Gardens, LeGrand Park, each day, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Goodman Museum is located at 624 N. Broadway.

"This is a perfect event for Tyler, since we're such a flower city, already known for our roses and azaleas," said Flower Market Chairman Pene Bridges, vice president of conventions for the Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau. "We're promoting the flower market throughout the state and expect tourists as well as local residents to attend," she said.

"We appreciate the fact that the City of Tyler's Parks and Recreation Department is working generously with us in providing the Goodman Museum grounds, tables, chairs, staff time and more," Bridges said, adding, "This is an event that will grow each year and as the grounds of the Goodman are renovated, and it is sure to become a more beautiful event in future years."
