HONORING SERVICE
The Bullard Volunteer Fire Department hangs a flag from its ladder truck on Saturday in honor of the late Press Newburn Jr. Services for Newburn, 87 were held on Saturday. Burial was at Bullard Cemetery. Trucks and crews to lined up along side FM 344 to pay respects to the former chief and firefighter. According to current fire chief, Keith Newburn, Press served with the BVFD from 1956 until his retirement about 1974. He served as chief from 1963 until 1974. Keith said Press was one of the few chiefs that pushed for a paid Fire Marshal's position within Smith County. Bullard Engine 8 led a procession to the cemetery. Crews stood in front of their trucks as the procession passed them.
