Community turns out for fun

The students earned an 18-16 victory over the faculty Thursday night in Bullard's second annual Buckeye donkey basketball game.

The annual event is hosted by the Bullard High School Key Club and supports projects for the club all year long.

About $1,000 was raised and part of the proceeds will help support the Bullard Community Library building fund, leadership training events for students, and other causes throughout the year.

The teams were tied at 2 points each at the end of the first period, but once the second period began, the faculty quickly pulled ahead and remained ahead with at least twice as many points until the final period was well under way.

Lauren Pilgrim earned the 2 points the students needed to stay in the game and force overtime when she fell from the donkey and was injured, no longer being able to play.

Ryan Lawrence then shot the game-winning basket in the sudden death type overtime.

Leading scorer for the students was Trent Weaver with 6 points; Andrew Barron, 4 and Princeton Dotson, 4.

Lee Sleeper led the faculty's scoring with 6 points, Mr. Stone, 4; Mrs. Price, 2; Mrs. Watkins, 2 and Tabitha Hippler, 2.
