Dover earns Eagle Scout Blake Dover, son of Ronda and Alan Dover earned Boy Scouting's top honor at a ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Bullard First Baptist Church. Dover, who is a Sophomore at Bullard High School, has been in scouting since the second grade and has recently completed all of the requirements to obtain Boy Scouting's highest rank - that of Eagle Scout. Research by the local troop reflects that Dover is only the second Eagle Scout from Bullard Troop 366 since 1989 when Perry Speaker received this award. The troop was dissolved shortly after Perry received his award and was only re-chartered nine years ago. Blake is also the first person since the troop has re-chartered to obtain his Bronze Palm - a distinction given for someone that has earned five more merit badges than are needed for the Eagle award. While only 5 percent of all scouts obtain their Eagle award, even fewer go on to obtain an Eagle Palm. Part of obtaining the Eagle Rank requires completion of a community service project. Blake chose as his project to lead a group of 25 people over the course of several Saturdays to build and stain two cedar picnic tables for the use of the congregation at First Baptist Church in Bullard. Blake is very active in his church at First Baptist and competes at the Varsity level at Bullard High School in Football and Power Lifting. He anticipates being a member of the Track Team this Spring. His plans include attending East Texas Baptist University upon graduation from Bullard High School. |
