Farm Bureau touts `check out' week in February The week of Feb. 4-10, is being recognized as "Food Check Out Week" by the Texas Farm Bureau. According to the Agriculture Department it takes most Americans about five weeks to make enough money to buy food for their family for the entire year. In contrast, it takes until April to earn enough to pay taxes. Cherokee County Farm Bureau is celebrating this recognition and would like to include the community. They will hold a "Farmer's Share" lunch. This will be a meal that costs you what the farmers receive for the raw product they produce in that meal. America's farmers and ranchers are the most productive in the world. They produce safe, quality food even though their cost of producing food is rising. Visit Southland Feed Store in Rusk on Feb. 6 and the Southland Feed Store in Jacksonville on Feb. 8 to celebrate. Proceeds from the event will go to the local food pantries in Cherokee County. |
