Spanish club takes trip
After lunch, Lara Buysman, a BHS student, took pictures of the group in front of the restaurant before they boarded the buses to return to Bullard High School. Students boarded buses to go on a Spanish Club field trip Tuesday, Dec. 4.
The 54 club members were headed to a presentation of "Las Aventuras de Don Quixote" by the National Theater for Arts & Education, LLC.
When the students and their sponsors, Mrs. Hammock, Miss Wilson and Mrs. Reed, arrived at the Carthage Middle School auditorium, the energized performers in costume greeted them at the door.
Then cast members escorted the group to their seats for the show.
The professional repertory theater group dramatized the highlights of the first modern novel, "Don Quixote" by Miguel de Cervantes.
Using creative techniques on stage, the actors and actresses dialogued in Spanish, then replayed the scene in English.
The classic story provides insight into the life and customs of Spain in the 16th century, an exciting unit of study in BHS Spanish classes.
"I liked the windmills," said Monique Gordon. The performers posed turning windmill vanes to enact the episode of "Don Quixote" fighting the giants.
Now the popular allusion "windmills of the mind" refers to that battle.
