Men's auxiliary seeking members

If someone has always wanted to be involved the Veteran's of Foreign Wars but didn't serve in a foreign wars, then maybe the men's auxiliary to the VFW would be of interest.

Rick Miller and Tom Grayson are looking for persons interested in organizing a men's auxiliary to the Frankston VFW post 5073.

To be eligible, you must be a citizen of the United States and at least 16 years old. You must be the husband, widower, father, foster or stepfather, grandfather, son, grandson, foster or stepson, brother, half brother, foster of step brother of a person who is eligible for VFW membership.

A prospective member must be able to produce a copy of the veteran's discharge papers showing military service in a foreign war.

Miller has been an active volunteer with the Frankston post for about 10 years and will be president of the men's auxiliary in Arlington beginning in July.

He and Grayson have been going to Arlington to attend meetings.

Miller's father, Ray, and Grayson's father Lloyd, both served overseas, and they would like to honor the service of their fathers - as well as other veterans by establishing a local charter of the men's auxiliary.

In order to establish a new charter, there must be a minimum of 25 men. Once the 25 potential members are located, the names will be taken to the Frankston post commander at which time 60 percent of the membership must vote in favor of the new charter.

"A local men's auxiliary to the VFWwould be mutually beneficial," Miller said, "both to the post and the community.

"The auxiliary would bring more workers to the post to assist in any projects that the post and the ladies auxiliary undertake to aid veterans and their families."
