TJC confer diplomas

Texas Ranger Kenny Ray was the keynote speaker at the Tyler Junior College Law Enforcement Academy graduation ceremony held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, in Room 104 of the TJC West Campus, announced Dr. Thomas A. Johnson, director of the law enforcement academy.

Also in attendance were TJC President Dr. William R. Crowe, Smith County Sheriff J.B. Smith, Tyler Police Chief Gary M. Swindle and Tyler Fire Chief Neal Franklin. Graduates were: Brandon

Davis, Grand Saline; Thomas Guerrero, Tyler: Dustin Hollingsworth, Winona; Chad Homer, Tyler; Judson Moore, Lindale; Letitia Powell, formerly of Gary, Ind., now of Tyler; William Steinmiller, formerly of Plymouth, Mich., now of Chandler; and Rodrick Young, Tyler. To qualify for graduation, students must complete a semester-long, 714-hour basic peace officer course.

Priority for admission is given to Smith County Sheriff’s Department deputies and Tyler Police Department officers, Johnson said.

The academy also offers continuing education and inservice training.
