Griffith joins the news staff
With only a couple years of experience she has accepted the challenge of becoming the new sports and feature writer for the newspaper. “I love writing and there is just a certain excitement that comes with the newspaper,” Griffith said. “The rush of deadlines, scoops and sharing your stories with the community is what it’s all about for me.” Griffith, a 2006 graduate of Bullard High School, is comfortable with both areas she’s covering. “While I’ve never written about sports, I played volleyball and basketball and I loved them both,” Griffith said. Editor Lori Mellinger said the combination of Griffith’s sports and writing experience and her knowledge of the community are the biggest assets she brings to the job. “When we started looking to fill the job, we weren’t sure who the best candidate would be,” Mellinger said. “Once we met Kelly, we knew that her knowledge of Bullard, its people, and the schools superseded anything the other candidates had to offer.” Griffith started her journalism journey only two years ago when signing up for the journalism elective offered at Bullard High School. “I loved the class so much and was quickly moved up to the newspaper class so my stories where actually printed.” Griffith said. She enrolled in the class again for the following year as a senior. That year she took on the role as co-editor-in-chief as well as elementary editor. “I’m lucky to have found this job,” Griffith said. “It hasn ’t brought me to far from my comfort zone. I’m still working with the schools and doing what love.” |
