Council to eye donation
Two area men offer vehicles for Bullard police department

Bullard City Council members will vote Thursday on accepting the donation of two residents who want to help out the police department.

James Ball and Bill Lumley - with Lumley making the presentation - will ask the council to approve their donation of two police cars to the department.

“Because they couldn’t officially donate to the department, we are asking the council to OK them giving the cars to the city,” said Bullard Police Chief Gary Lewis. The city would, in turn, hand them over to the police.

Lewis said the cars are already outfitted - except for radios, and he’s excited about Lumley Lumley and Ball’s generosity.

“Mr. Lumley has a friend with the Shreveport Police Department,” Lewis said. “The department was cycling out some of their cars with higher mileage, and he expressed an interest in buying them.”

The cars are already outfitted with some very expensive equipment, which makes the donation even better, Lewis said.

“They already have light bars, cages, and mobile vision cameras,” Lewis said. “That equipment alone is pricey.”

Lewis said the generosity of these men - while unexpected - isn’t surprising having been in Bullard so long.

“People here are generous,” he said. “And these guys want absolutely nothing in return.

“That’s why Bullard is such a great place.”

In other business, the council will discuss and act upon:

! a presentation by the Bullard Chamber of Commerce regarding establishing a working relationship with the city;

! a final plat for unit 6 of the Mosley Addition

! a preliminary plat for Bullard Crossing;

! changing the date of council meetings from the second Thursday to the second Tuesday of the month; and

! ratifying the appointment of Doris Crockett as Interim City Secretary.

The Bullard City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Bullard City Hall, North Phillips St., Bullard.

The meetings are open and the public is encouraged to attend.
