CANTON DOWNS BULLARD CANTON - Bullard's hopes of being a spoiler in the District 14-3A were not realized as they fell 34-14 to the hometown Eagles. Canton, needing a win to secure a playoff berth, dominated the Panthers from the opening kick. The win, combined with a Chapel Hill decision over Van and Athens' loss to Brownsboro, gave the Canton team second place in the wildly competitive district. Canton (6-4, 3-2) opened the game with a bang as Sam Buker scored on a 96-yard kickoff return. The visiting Panthers found themselves down 7-0 before fans had found their places in the stands. Bullard was held to eight first downs and just over 100 yards total offense in the game. Buker was a wrecking crew by himself. Not only did he score on the opening kick, but also he caught a 68-yard scoring pass and a 24-yard run. Canton running back Zack Cummings had 95 yards and a score on 18 attempts. Jason McWilliams scored a defensive touchdown for the squad on a fumble return. Top performers for Bullard included DeQuan Gransbury with a touchdown late in the game. Quarterback Cameron Clark scored on a 3- yard run. Clark came into the game with more than 1,000 yards passing and 15 touchdowns. Clark was sacked a seven times by the Eagles and completed six of 12 passes for 50 yards. Charlie Moore attempted six passes, completing three for 40 yards. Justin Hollie was the top receiver with two grabs for 36 yards while Jeff Alsobrook caught two passes for 33 yards. Geoff Dick ran eight times for 22 yards against the tough Eagle defense. Bullard finishes the year with a 4-6 record, 1-4 in district play. |
