Genealogical society sets meet

East Texas Genealogical Society will hold it regular monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Tyler Public Library in the Taylor Auditorium featuring John Sellers. John will present a program called "Unraveling the Great War."

Sellers will take a look at World War One and its genealogical sources, especially the Draft Registration that occurred from 1917-1918.

What these and other records reveal will be addressed.

Sellers is a fifth generation native to Hopkins County. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in advertising/public relations and received his teaching certificate in history from Texas A&M at Commerce.

He is a graduate of the Samford University, advanced methodology course.

He compiled an addendum to the l850 Hopkins County census and is the author of a historical newspaper article, "Hopkins County Remembered."

Sellers is a frequent speaker at society meetings across the state.

He has a well-earned reputation as an outstanding speaker.

John is employed with City National Bank, Sulphur Springs, as a loan officer since July 2006.

About 30 minutes following the conclusion of the regular program and refreshments, the computer interest group of the East Texas Genealogical Society will meet with Beverly Bailey Odom, who will conduct a workshop and planning session on surveying and photographing Oakwood Cemetery in Tyler.

ETGS meetings are free and open to the public.
