Moore joins Bullard staff

Moore
Dan Moore sees his move from Lindale to Bullard as a natural progression in his career.

Moore, former publisher of Lindale News and Times, was just named general manager of four newspapers owned by Bluebonnet Publishing.

"Bullard is experiencing the same growth as Lindale has recently seen," Moore said. "I'm excited to watch it happen and be a part of it."

Moore, a native of Columbia, S.C., said he fell into the newspaper business by accident about nine years ago, and he's loved every bit of it.

"My background is sales, and I enjoy the fast paced excitement of newspapers," he said. "I also have a strong commitment to community journalism and the role of a newspaper as part of the community."

One of Moore's first duties has been overseeing the development and production of Bluebonnet's newest publication - Compass. The free publication - which is published twice a month - covers the area encompassing Tyler.

"It's a niche that's not really been explored," he said. "And it's such a growing area.

"Community newspapers serve a unique market."

Moore said he knows people get national news from other outlets; he's interested in informing people of events in their own backyards.

He will serve as the general manager Bullard Banner News, Tri County Leader, Chandler and Brownsboro Statesman.

Moore first became interested in newspapers nine years ago when he served as a sales representative in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

"I'd like to take the paper and grow with the community," Moore said. "We want to produce a quality community newspaper that meets the needs of the city."

Bill Woodall, part owner of Bluebonnet, said it was a coup to hire Moore.

"I've known Dan for a number of years, and I've watched what he's accomplished as publisher of the Lindale News and Times. Because of his accomplishments there, we have really been hoping to find a way to fit him into the company," Woodall said.

"He makes the Banner News better and he makes Bluebonnet Publishing a better newspaper company."

"Newspaper publishers always hope to develop a staff that is as good as the newspaper's market. With Dan in the mix, that has happened."

Moore said he's excited about the new challenges.

"The role of the newspaper is have fair, balanced coverage keeping citizens informed on city, school, business and community news, and that's what we will continue to do."

"It is indeed a great privilege to have this opportunity to serve several communities in which we have newspapers. "Although these local papers are doing an excellent job, it is my desire to take them to the next level by staying on the cutting edge in our ever-changing society," Moore said.

Moore is currently vice president of the Lindale Economic Development Corporation and is serving as a director of the North East Texas Press Association.

He is a past president of the Lindale Area Chamber of Commerce and board member Better Business Bureau.

He has served on the Lindale Advisory Board that was instrumental in the city's master plan and served on Lindale's Architectural Committee. He is a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club.

Moore and his wife, Ann, live in Lindale.

"A Bullard city official last week told us that the Banner News has become a real newspaper," Woodall said.

"The Banner News is now an even better real newspaper."
