The Brook Hill School, celebrating 10 years of providing Christ-centered college preparatory education in East Texas, is now delighted to announce the Grand Opening of the Lower School and Ornelas Building. Everyone is invited to celebrate the completion of this phase of the school with a grand tour of the facilities where you may also meet the teachers and enjoy refreshments. ! Throughout October, Moore Farms is displaying the entries in its annual scarecrow contest. Categories range from traditional to whimsical, and visitors vote for their favorites. Winners are to be announced Oct. 21. Located west of Bullard of County Road 181, Moore Farms is owned and operated by Cleve and Lesley Moore and their children. The farm also has a pumpkin patch, corn maze and vegetables.

! Schambach Global Outreach Center is holding a Halloween alternative celebration from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 31. The event is free to the public and includes food, black-light puppets, a movie, jump house, giant slide, candy and prizes. The center is located at 22525 Highway 155 South. ! In its 34th year, the Tyler Jaycees Haunted House premiers Oct. 13. Kicking off the opening is a canned food drive benefiting the East Texas Food Bank and live entertainment. Doors open at 7 p.m. The Halo Down performance begins at 8pm. The concert is free with the price of admission to The Asylum. The house is located at 304 E Ferguson, just off the square in downtown Tyler and features more than 20 different rooms. General admission price is $10. A canned food drive benefiting the East Texas Regional Food Bank will be held October 13-14 and 20-21. When patrons bring in 2 or more cans of food, they will receive $2 off the general admission price. The Asylum is open October 13-14, 19-21, and 25-31 starting at 7pm each night.
