Chamber scurries to get businesses to Bullard expo

As committee chair B.J. Langford makes final preparations for the second annual Bullard Business Expo, he's hopeful more will begin turning in registration forms this week.

Although he said he's not certain of the exact number

signed up as of Sunday, e-mail coordinator Carolyn McCall sent a plea on his behalf last week.

"The problem," Langford wrote in the e-mail is, "The booth requests are slow in coming in."

"We need to get everyone registered so that we can make our plans and layout the (Southern Baptist Church) Life Center," he wrote. "We need to get at least 29 booths. We need to do well so that we will continue this event."

Applications for booths are still being accepted. Langford said Brook Hill will be represented, as well as an array of other businesses.

Also, the Bullard Volunteer Fire Department will be on hand. The event will be held Saturday at Bullard's Southern Baptist Church, on FM 2493, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Langford said the biggest lesson he learned from the first expo was scheduling. Last year's event coincided with Tyler's Rose Festival. This year, however, Trinity Mother Frances is hosting a party for longtime Bullard resident and physician Dr. Marjorie Roper from 1-4 p. m. Saturday, as well.

Langford said a more concentrated marketing strategy was part of the plan to increase awareness and pique interest.

"To make sure we have enough funds to get the word out, we have changed the fees," Langford said.

This year, the fee for a booth is $35 for members and $70 for non members.

"There are so many new people and new businesses in our area," Langford said. "It's a great networking opportunity.

Those interested in reserving a booth may fill out an application, available at the chamber office, 114 N. Houston St., Bullard, 75757.

No merchandise may be sold, but participants may make appointments or take orders.
