Tickets are sale Monday for TJC's 'A Name for a Ghost to Mutter'

The Tyler Junior College Department of Speech and Theatre opened its box office last week, for "A Name for a Ghost to Mutter" - the second play of Theatre TJC's 80th season - set for Nov. 29 to Dec. 4.

"In addition to this being the 80th anniversary of TJC, it is also the 80th year of Las Mascaras,

the college's speech and drama organization," said Dr. David Crawford, chair of the TJC speech and theatre department.

"In light of that, we thought it a fitting time to celebrate the works of TJC graduates." Written by 1978 TJC graduate Cyndi Williams, "A Name for a Ghost to Mutter" is inspired by actual family histories and spans a century, from the Indian reservations of Oklahoma to modern

Dallas. This moving drama explores four generations of women, vividly connecting their personal struggles, dreams and a powerful family secret, culminating in a mysterious and powerful resolution.

For this work, Williams received the Best New American Play Award at the 1999 Harvest Festival of New American Plays and The Larry L. King Award. She is managing director of

Refraction Arts and The Blue Theatre in Austin. The Theatre TJC box office will be open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays, except on holidays. Reservations can be made by calling 903-510-2212 or dropping by the Theatre TJC box office located in the Wise Cultural Arts building across the lobby from the Jean Browne Theatre.

Seats are $5 each.
