Teaching Spanish classes at Bullard High School is the day job for husband and wife teaching partners Colby and Melinda Reid, helping students conjugate verbs and learn to correctly pronounce the Spanish alphabet. After the school bell rings to dismiss students for the day, the couple continues to team up, as they travel the short distance to Tyler to enjoy learning and training in the martial art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. more
Smith County Precinct 1 Constable Henry Jackson was sentenced in federal court last week stemming from his guilty plea earlier this year on four counts of willfully failing to pay his federal income taxes. Jackson was given a six-month sentence in federal prison, as well as a year of probation during a sentencing hearing Tuesday, Sept. 12, in front of Magistrate Judge K. Nicole Mitchell in the United States District Court for the Easter District of Texas. Jackson, who has served in his position since 1999, pleaded guilty to the charges on Tuesday, May 16, as he was presented with the information and decided to plead guilty rather than having the case brought before a Grand Jury. more

Students attending Bullard ISD schools will join together and pray at their respective school’s flag poles during the annual See You at the Pole event, to be held 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27. “See You at the Pole is a fantastic opportunity for the students to come together not as individual churches, but as a community of fellow believers and just pray,” said Mike Bell, Bullard Southern Baptist Church youth pastor. They can pray for their school, their country, and each other. It’s really an interesting event to see the students take the initiative and step up to lead the event and the prayers.” more
Officials announced on Wednesday, Sept. 13 that the East Texas Medical Center Regional Healthcare System has selected Ardent Health Services and The University of Texas System, which includes The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, to form a new health system to benefit East Texas. Ardent will assume majority ownership and day-to-day operations of the new system. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. more
The Bullard High School administration recently announced the candidates that will represent the school as members of the 2017 BHS Homecoming Court. This year, students at BHS selected three seniors to represent the school as Homecoming Queen candidates. Students selected as Homecoming queen candidates include Faith Crist, Nicole Jones, and Macy Riley. Crist is the daughter of Chip and Heather Crist. She has been involved with several BHS student organizations, including National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Health Occupations Students of America, Key Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Bullard Future Farmers of America. more
At the end of the 2016-2017 school year, several members of the Bullard High School Panther Band and Bullard High School Choir programs were able to achieve success, both individually and as small groups. The two BHS Fine Arts organizations competed at the 2017 UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contests, both held Saturday through Monday, May 27-29, at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville. more
