A Bullard man was identified by authorities as an individual killed in a fatal crash in State Highway 31 in Henderson County last week. According to Staff Sergeant Jean Dark with the Texas Department of Public Safety, troopers responded to a two-vehicle wreck approximately 3.3 miles west of Brownsboro at approximately 10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21. more
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced recently that he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts a total of $911.9 million in local sales tax allocations for the month of February. The report released by the Texas Comptroller’s office stated the figures released for February represent a 6.2 percent increase statewide from the amount released in February 2017. February’s sales tax figures from the Comptroller’s office showed upticks in amounts for both the City of Bullard and Smith County, while Cherokee County’s amount took a slight dip. more
The trial date for a Flint business owner accused of allegedly committing a sexual assault on a female under 14 years old has now been set. According to reports, the trial for Grant Edward Cook, 56, of Flint, listed as the owner of Grant Cook Music, a store specializing in musical instrument sales and music lessons on Highway 155 in Flint, is scheduled to begin Wednesday, April 11. more

Ardent Health Services and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler (UT Health Northeast) today announced the newly formed 10-hospital health system created by the purchase of East Texas Medical Center Regional Healthcare System (ETMC) will be named UT Health East Texas. The sale is projected to close Thursday, March 1. Speaking on behalf of The University of Texas System Board of Regents, Chairman Sara Martinez Tucker congratulated all who had been involved in bringing together the clinical expertise of UT Health Northeast and the operational skill of Ardent Health Services in the formation of UT Health East Texas. more

A mistrial was declared last week in a trial involving a Smith County Commissioner accused of assaulting an elderly woman inside of a Smith County church in 2017. Smith County Precinct 4 Commissioner JoAnn Hampton appeared in the 241st District Court inside the Smith County Courthouse Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 12-14, for her trail after having been indicted by a Smith County grand jury on two counts of Injury to an Elderly Individual last September. more
The primary election season is now in full swing across the State of Texas, as early voting began on Tuesday, Feb. 20. As an open primary state, any registered voter in Texas is allowed to take part in either the Democrat or Republican primary, but not in both. One’s vote in the primary does not obligate an individual to vote for any specific party or candidate during the general election. The State Republican Executive Committee approved placing 11 propositions on the March Republican primary ballot. more
